Religious and Historical Tourism Object

Banyuwangi in past, ever be a place of Blambangan Kingdom. Beside that, there are many stories that make Banyauwangi as incidence background.

In this entry, I will show to you about the religious and historical that you can enjoy. Of course, all that on Banyuwangi.

Gumuk Kancil Temple.

In a isolated area, built at a hilly land on the slope of Raung mountain in which the scenery and its surroundings are very fabulous, increasing the splendour of its wonderful view, located in Bumiharjo village, sub district of Glenmore, about 60 km from Banyuwangi. It is believed that Resi Markandya had ever done the meditation here before the monk finally reached Bali.
Candi Keramat Gumuk Kancil is worshipped by Hindu who come from other region, specially on Saraswati day, a ritual ceremony held in the commemoration of scientific day.

Pura Luhur Giri Saloka

This temple is one of ancients temple and is a really historical temple located in Alas Purwo National Park in lonely green sense forest enhanced the beauty of nature around the temple. Pura Agung Giri Saloka is visited and worshipped by Hindu from many other regions. Pagerwesi ceremony is centered here, a solemn religius ceremony to purify the sacred iron tools by splashing the holy water taken from seven spring water.

Buyut Cili Graveyard

Considered to be one of Usingnese's forefather. Located at Kemiren village, Glagah Sub District, banyuwangi. It lies on the ricefield in which the scenery and its surroundings are very wonderful and peaceful. The visitors usually come to do thanksgiving on Sunday and Thursday afternoon. The mean offering is Pecel Pitik/Pethetheng (grilled chicken mixed with coconut), after being blessed by a moslem preacher, the pecel pitik and rice may be eaten and distributed to the visitor.

Hoo Tong Bio Chinese Temple

It is located at Kelurahan Karangrejo, Kecamatan Kota Banyuwangi. It is at Chinese town, a place where most of Chinese live in. it is also called as the fortress for Chinese. It was build in 1768~1784, by Tan Hu Cin Jin. The building has closed relationship with the history of Chinese assassination that was done by VOC in Batavia (it is Jakarta now). A Chinese ship captain, Tan Hu Cin Jin and their crew led the escape, but the ship was gone aground in Banyuwangi. Finally, they decided to live in Banyuwangi and build the Klenteng (like a big Shrine). To honor the grandeur of the captain, every his birthday is celebrated merrily every year.

Ompak Songo


Ompak Songo is located at the Tembokrejo Village, Muncar Subcity. The distance between Banyuwangi and this place is about 34 km. Other archeological remains are stones like gong, a musical instrument in Javanese gamelan. It is called Ompak Songo because there are nine stones in this place. Nine means songo in Javanese Language. Umpak means foundation.

Beside the religious and historical sense, You still given a the peaceful green sense when you visit the tourism object on the top.
